We are all unique, and yet discovering a husband or boyfriend has a secret life of sexual and/or sexualized activities generates questions common to partners everywhere. We second guess assumptions we never thought were in play. We question our own history. We wonder what reality means. We worry if we can recover and keep our relationship. And we struggle to figure out who this man is with whom we have a relationship. In ten audio files (+ an important introduction) I address the following questions that my clients ask most offen:
- Why didn’t I know what was really going on?
- How can I ever trust myself again?
- Will I ever stop crying?
- Is there any hope?
- Now that he’s in treatment, why is he still treating me so badly?
- Can I find peace about the years I can’t get back?
- Why does he talk to me like he’s reciting lines?
- Will I ever recover?
- Is couple’s counseling going to help?
- What is the most important thing to do for my recovery
In the accompanying print material, you can review the audio text and work with the reflection prompts offered for each question.
This is a "straight-talking" presentation where I share what I have learned so far, and how I respond to those questions now. In this respect it is not intended for wives and partners in the early days of discovery. It assumes you are further along the journey in understanding your situation and your options.
A three-decade veteran of coming alongside people in crisis and change, I decided to share what I have learned along the way. But I'm not done learning, so I named my school for my own truth--"Still Learning". My clientele include partners of sex addicts, those at risk for compassion fatigue, trauma and disaster survivors, and people who just want to integrate their many life experiences in healthy ways. Sound interesting? It is! I bring three degrees (including an M.A. and an M.Div.) a few certifications (including Compassion Fatigue Specialist-Therapist), and years of experience serving the client groups named above. My purpose here: I invest in you and create opportunities for you to invest in yourself. Heal gently. Grow wiser. Live courageously.
